South Brittany: Welcome to our home!
Billiers, is a small, preserved town which faces the Vilaine estuary. There are miles of coastal paths and marked footpaths from the town centre to Pen Lan, taking you past the abbey, Notre Dame de Prières, and Les Granges. The Prières centre is now a rehabilitation centre to help men and women get back into the work environment. You can buy fruit and vegetables, eggs and other products made by them. In Pen Lan, discover Les Barges beach, a sheltered beach popular with swimmers. Romantics can head to Lovers’ beach (plage des Amoureux) at the foot of Domaine de Rochevilaine, which is not far from Pen Lan lighthouse, red and white like Tintin’s moon rocket. And to complete the loop, head for Billiers harbour and the « Belle de Vilaine » an old sailing vessel which will take you on a trip back in time.
Muzillac is not only practical, it is also boasts a rich natural environment : Pen Mur site. Here there are plenty of long walks to be enjoyed amongst the trees, flowers and river… you can even fish for perch and pike. For years there was an old paper mill open to the public for visits but unfortunately the papermaking savoir-faire has been transferred elsewhere. The Chapel of Moustéro, Trégréhenne, Pénesclus and Saint Thérèse church are open to the public for visits (meals are organised every year by local associations to raise money to upkeep the buildings… ask for details).
